SkillsIndex is an independent directory that discovers, enriches, and scores every AI agent tool so vibe coders can find exactly what they need — fast.
Why We Built This
The AI agent ecosystem is exploding. There are 1,000+ MCP servers, hundreds of GPT actions, Claude skills, IDE plugins, and more — spread across GitHub, npm, awesome-lists, and random blog posts. Finding the right tool means digging through READMEs, checking if it's still maintained, and hoping the permissions aren't sketchy.
We built SkillsIndex to solve that. One place where every tool is indexed, enriched with real data (install commands, permissions, compatibility), and scored so you can compare apples to apples.
Our Scoring Model
Every tool gets an overall score out of 100, computed from four dimensions:
Security (30%)
Code audit, permissions requested, data handling, and trust signals.
Utility (30%)
How useful is it? Stars, downloads, feature completeness, and user adoption.
Maintenance (25%)
Recent commits, issue response time, release frequency, and archive status.
Uniqueness (15%)
Does it solve something others don't? Or is it one of 50 identical wrappers?

Data Sources
Our index is built from multiple sources, cross-referenced and deduplicated:
- awesome-mcp-servers — 1,300+ community-curated MCP servers
- GitHub API — 7,000+ repos tagged with MCP, agent tools, GPT actions
- npm Registry — package metadata, downloads, and versions
- Community submissions — builders submit their own tools via our form
Data refreshes weekly. GitHub signals (stars, commits, issues) update automatically. Stale tools get flagged.

SkillsIndex was built by Thomas Blanc, an independent builder who creates structured data directories for underserved niches. This project exists because vibe coders deserve better tooling discovery — not more GitHub rabbit holes.
We have no paid placements, no sponsored rankings, and no affiliate links. The goal is to be the most trusted source for AI agent tool discovery.
